On 10th November, UCLAN Pagan Soc was lead in a wand making workshop by one of it's members, Trevor Hedges. Trev has been making wands for a number of years and had some good tips for choosing the right wand to how to decorate them and treat the wood afterwards. Some members had brought sticks with them which they had gathered themselves on the societies trip to Tockholes woods for the groups Samhain ritual. As trev explained, when choosing the wood for a wand it is important to find a stick that "feels right" to you, but also that it is dry and not rotten. He demonstrated how to strip the wood, and various ways of decorating them, from attaching ribbons and copper wire, to carving in symbols or setting crystals in the end as points. A wand is a tool that some pagans use in ther practice to focus or channel energy, and although bought ones can work. You will always get better results with something you have taken the time to craft yourself. We certainly had fun doing so.
